Songs on the Summit w/ Rick Charette
Kids programs have always been a strong part of the Sugarloaf community year-round, & this footage from the ’80s shows a summer day at the top of Sugarloaf with singer, songwriter, performer Rick Charette whose passion & talent for writing for children resulted in the well-known “Bubblegum” in 1983, followed in 1985 by “Alligator in the Elevator”. These kids would be in their thirties now, but probably still remember this happy day, courtesy of the beloved Sugarloaf Gondola, & the programs entrenched in our local lifestyle to ensure future generations of outdoors adventurers continue to thrive & love this place as WE do ….
Those were the days……..!!!
Jimmy Heuga Racing for MS on Bucksaw
Jimmie Heuga was one of the first two American men to win an Olympic medal in Alpine skiing, and became a pioneering advocate of exercise and activity to combat multiple sclerosis, the disease that curtailed his athletic career. After the top-to-bottom Sugarloaf vertical challenge morphed into the Jimmy Heuga Fundraiser for MS, the objective of getting as much vertical as possible in one day caused the event to use a dedicated trail, Windrow, serviced by Bucksaw Chairlift. Now that Sugarloaf has announced Bucksaw is going away with no replacement being discussed, we are sad to see this family-friendly, wind resistant chairlift be quietly taken away this summer. Thanks for the memories, here are some to share!
