WSKI’s Guest: Bike Coalition of Maine

April 10, 2015 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Carrabassett’s emerging reputation as a destination for mountain bikers is attracting more visitors in the warmer months, & WSKI is always on board with any organization who encourages outdoor activities such as biking, SO we invited Nancy Grant to be our guest to share news about BikeMaine, an event offered by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, a nonprofit organization with more than 5,000 members working to make Maine better through biking and walking. Although the event does not encompass our region, we support the “Get Outside” message! BikeMaine is a fully-supported, seven day cycling tour held in mid-September; cyclists pedal an average of 55 miles per day along moderately challenging terrain from Maine’s rocky coastline, to the foothills & lakes inland to Bethel. Take a Hike! West Kennebago mountain

August 9, 2014 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Located just about an hour’s drive from the Sugarloaf region and 20 min. from downtown Rangeley is West Kennebago Mountain. This is a moderate hike taking about 3.5 hours with its summit elevation topping out above 3700 feet. Driving directions to the Trailhead from Rangeley: Take Route 16 west from Oquossoc (toward Wilson’s Mills) 4.8 miles to the dirt road on the right (Morton Cut-off Road). Go 3.2 miles and take a right at the intersection. Travel 5.3 miles to the trail. The trails is marked with a sign and red blazes.
