Take a Hike! West Kennebago mountain

Located just about an hour’s drive from the Sugarloaf region and 20 min. from downtown Rangeley is West Kennebago Mountain. This is a moderate hike taking about 3.5 hours with its summit elevation topping out above 3700 feet. Driving directions to the Trailhead from Rangeley: Take Route 16 west from Oquossoc (toward Wilson’s Mills) 4.8 miles to the dirt road on the right (Morton Cut-off Road). Go 3.2 miles and take a right at the intersection. Travel 5.3 miles to the trail. The trails is marked with a sign and red blazes.

2014 Carrabassett Valley Youth Mountain Bike Camp

The 2014 Carrabassett Valley Youth Mountain bike camp was a great success. Offered by the town of Carrabassett, kids in grades 6-12 had the opportunity to learn new skills as well as get to know the great new trails in the area.  If you’re intrested don’t miss out on next years camp!

From the Archives: Mountain biking on Portland’s Channel 13

There’s something about living here in the mountains that means going downhill on your mountain bike is what we do…!!! The CV NEMBA Club has created many miles of cross-country, through the woods, up & down the steeps, & over the river, trails for all levels of riding in Carrabassett Valley. This video on the Widowmaker Challenge from a few years back shows some of the history of mountain biking in our region, as we continue to grow & develop this exciting outdoor adventure sport to attract more visitors to our region! Mountain Biking in the Valley: It’s an adventure!

I ride my bike everyday. Well, everyday that I can make time for it. Fortunatly for myself, the summer season in the High Peaks Region is much slower and more relaxed. Compared to the busy Winter demands of working in the ski industry, the summertime is… well awesome. If your looking for outdoor oppurtunities here in the High Peaks Region, there is enough to keep you busy for a lifetime.

Mountain biking is getting huge in Carrabassett Valley. Between the work of Carrabassett Region NEMBA, Maine Huts and Trails, Sugarloaf and the Town of Carrabassett Valley, we are well on our way to becoming a world class destination for mountain biking. [Read more…]

Untamed New England hits Carrabassett Valley

June 19th thru the 24th saw adventure racers from around the globe navigating their way through the Sugarloaf region. Untamed New England is a four day non stop race consisting of mountain biking, orienteering, packrafting, padding, ropes, trekking, whitewater rafting and wilderness navigation. Known as “more an adventure than a race”. 

Race headquarters were at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.
