Go for a Paddle: Outlet of the South Branch, Dead River
From the boat launch off route 27, just north of the Village of Stratton, is where the South Branch of the Dead river flows into Flagstaff Lake. Watch for Eagles, Turtles and other wildlife as you meander up the Dead River. Paddle until it gets too shallow to go up river any further. On your return trip enjoy great views of the Bigelow range. A nice easily accessible spot to take your canoe, kayak or paddle board. Launch your boat at the boat launch in Stratton off rt 27. Paddle left, or West, heading up the river. Get it while you can: Paddling the Carrabassett River
Many folks don’t like the rain. If you enjoy the local rivers and streams, especially by the power of a paddle than the rain is a good thing. Right here in Carrabassett we have the beautiful Carrabassett River which runs along the Maine High Peaks scenic byway from New Portland to the Sugarloaf access rd.
