The Dead River was dammed in the 1950s to create Flagstaff Lake as a water storage facility for hydro power at a time when citizens had little to say about the demise of their village, farms, & life as they knew it on the north side of Bigelow Mountain. A nice easily accessible spot to take your canoe, kayak or paddle board. Launch your boat at the boat launch in Stratton off rt 27. Paddle left, or West, heading up the river.
