Sugarloaf Maine
June 19th thru the 24th saw adventure racers from around the globe navigating their way through the Sugarloaf region. Untamed New England is a four day non stop race consisting of mountain biking, orienteering, packrafting, padding, ropes, trekking, whitewater rafting and wilderness navigation. Known as “more an adventure than a race”.
Race headquarters were at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.

With the temps forecasted to get into the upper 80’s and lower 90’s over the next couple of days, it’s good to know where to cool off. Kibby Mountain (3654 ft) is located north of Flagstaff Lake, east of Chain of Ponds and just south of the Canadian boarder. The trail to the summit is 2.5 miles long and takes approx 1.5 hrs to reach the summit. One of the ways for the public to enjoy the hard work accomplished by the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust is by checking out one of the many parcels of preserved land in the region. This can include fishing on the legendary Rapid River, bird watching in one of the wildlife sanctuaries, and plenty of opportunities for hiking as well.
In this short video we stopped by the Bonney Point Trails. This easy 1 mile loop hike with lake access can be reached by turning off of Rt 4 just north of the town of Rangeley onto Bonney Point road. The trailhead and parking area is on the left. Once at the trailhead, you’ll find a signpost with maps and all the info you’ll need to explore Bonney Point.
