2012 Kingfield Pops

The Kingfield POPs is an annual event which happens on the last weekend of June. Showcasing the town of Kingfield and the talented musicians, artists and artisans of the Maine High Peaks Region. 2012 was the 10th anniversary of the Kingfield Pops. In celebration they contracted Noel Paul Stooky (of Peter, Paul & Mary fame) to write a song for the event. Cabin Fever Waltz was the result and he did not dissapoint. The final link in the Appalachian Trail was in our backyard & completed on Aug. 14, 1937

On Saturday Aug. 18, there will be a celebration of the anniversary of the last link of the Appalachian Trail’s completion on Aug. 14, 1937, which occured between Sugarloaf & Spaulding Mtn. in the western mountains of Maine. Australian Snowmakers at Sugarloaf in 1989: First Women Ever to Join the Crew!

Theresa & Lisa Scheimer were the first women to be Snowmakers at Sugarloaf, as part of a crew of six who came from Thredbo in the Snowy Mountains, at a time when Maine’s unemployment was low, & the head of the crew was part of the new computerization of the snowmaking system…. a concept that has led to drastic changes for the better in the years since; both product-wise & economically! This creative little homage to their experience was taped for the Snowmakers Ball of 1989 which they had to miss. Sugarloaf's Zipline: Winter or Summer, Fun Flying thru the Trees & Over the Brook!

Weekend summer action at the Mountain includes scenic chairlift rides & the exciting zipline, right through fall foliage season. Tours last for roughly one hour, & feature five different lines up to 260 feet in length, with riders reaching top speeds of nearly 25 miles per hour. Untamed New England hits Carrabassett Valley

June 19th thru the 24th saw adventure racers from around the globe navigating their way through the Sugarloaf region. Untamed New England is a four day non stop race consisting of mountain biking, orienteering, packrafting, padding, ropes, trekking, whitewater rafting and wilderness navigation. Known as “more an adventure than a race”. 

Race headquarters were at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.
