The Summer Views from Our Mountain
One of the best parts about living at a ski resort is having an easy way to see the view from up high of the surrounding mountains & valley below! Sugarloaf runs the SuperQuad on weekends during summer & autumn for everyone to have the chance to share the outstanding view & see why us ‘mountain people’ love where we live as much as we do! The view is unchanged from this raw (unedited) footage when the Gondi was a regular summer attraction; you just have to hike up a bit further to get to the summit for the same view of our surrounding peaks. Sunday Blues in the Barn
Mountain Village Farm B& B in Kingfield is the perfect place to base your Maine High Peaks adventures from, at any time of the year! The Barn on the Farm is also a fantastic venue for music, as we will appreciate this summer when Victor Wainwright makes an appearance on August 2nd. Circle the date: see you there, blues fans!!!
WSKI’s Guest: Bike Coalition of Maine
Carrabassett’s emerging reputation as a destination for mountain bikers is attracting more visitors in the warmer months, & WSKI is always on board with any organization who encourages outdoor activities such as biking, SO we invited Nancy Grant to be our guest to share news about BikeMaine, an event offered by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, a nonprofit organization with more than 5,000 members working to make Maine better through biking and walking. Although the event does not encompass our region, we support the “Get Outside” message! BikeMaine is a fully-supported, seven day cycling tour held in mid-September; cyclists pedal an average of 55 miles per day along moderately challenging terrain from Maine’s rocky coastline, to the foothills & lakes inland to Bethel. Maine Maple Sunday at Sugarloaf’s Sugarshack
WSKI was lucky enough to get an early morning tour of Sugarloaf’s own Sugarshack on Maine Maple Sunday. Danny Barker walks us through the process, and thanks to Gifford’s, we enjoyed some of Sugarloaf’s own maple syrup atop some tasty vanilla ice cream. Maine Maple Sunday is a day where the sugarshacks across the state open up their doors to the public to learn about this great pastime. Sugarloaf’s sap comes straight from big ole maple trees over on West Mtn. [Read more…]
