Take a Hike! Little Bigelow

June 3, 2015 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Little Bigelow is a great hike offering various terrain and views…
To get to the trailhead:
From Carrabassett Valley take the Carriage road located at Valley Crossing. Drive the Carriage road for about 5 miles to the end. Take a left and you’ll soon see a large sign marking Bigelow Preserve. Just past the sign you’ll come to a fork in the road, bear left here. Almost immediately on your right there is a parking area as well as access to Flagstaff lake. Park your car here. Hike out of the parking lot and continue up the road (following white blazes) the trail is on your left. Follow the white blazes to the summit. [Read more…]

Simon Rucker recently paid us a visit to share news about the latest endeavors on behalf of the Maine Appalachian Land Trust & others who are devoted to making sure that our mountains, & their wildlife, waters & endless natural wonders, are able to be accessed & appreciated not only by us now, but also the generations to follow, so they, too, can cherish the Maine High Peaks as we do today!!

More on Hiking Bigelow via the Appalachian Trail

November 17, 2014 by WSKI Leave a Comment

A few years ago when we made a commitment to bringing local information to our viewers to make their stay in the Maine High Peaks Region the best it can be, two of the first videos produced by our intrepid “Lonely Hiker” were for hikes on the AT at either end of the Bigelow Range. At the NW end is Cranberry Peak & at the SE end is Little Bigelow, both moderate hikes, &, in these videos, both are a good snowshoe trip in the winter, too!

Our production quality has become better since those days, but we trust the info is still useful for anyone who wants a glimpse at our region’s Appalachian Trail sections. We celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the completion of the last two miles of the entire AT between Sugarloaf  & Spaulding Mtns. on Aug. 18, 2012.
