Sugarloaf late summer Update from Karl Strand

In three weeks, Sugarloaf hosts the MAXXIS ESC Enduro Series Box Showdown on the trails currently being constructed on the east side of the Mtn. PLUS there was a DEP info meeting on the West Mtn. development a few weeks ago in the Baselodge.. And everyone wants to know what the Go is w/ the SuperQuad! So many questions!! We asked the Man in Charge to share what he knows, as the goldenrod is in bloom & Homecoming is 8 weeks from now, yippee!!

You never get over having your hometown permanently flooded over….

The Dead River was dammed in the 1950s to create Flagstaff Lake as a water storage facility for hydro power at a time when citizens had little to say about the demise of their village, farms, & life as they knew it on the north side of Bigelow Mountain. Betty Wyman was a girl at the time, & she visited WSKI with her son, Eustis/Stratton selectman Jay Wyman, to share memories of growing up in the western mountains of Maine, before there was skiing, & before there was a Flagstaff Lake.
