Congrats to Mark Schwartz for winning the Spillway Chair!

April 15, 2012 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Watch and Win for the winter season wrapped up on Sunday morning and Kip was there to finally draw the name of the lucky winner of an authentic, limited-edition Spillway Chair! As Kip would say, you don’t get prizes like that on the Today Show! Kip was joined by John Byrne of the Sugarloaf Ski Shop as well as the Lovely Lifty Ladies Holly Tienken and Virginia Walck to help pick the name! Thank you to all of our loyal listeners for tuning in this season. It’s been a strange one, but we’ve had a great year regardless and stay tuned to WSKI all summer long. We’ll be back on Homecoming weekend with an all new season of live shows!

Greater Franklin Development Corporation was established in an effort to strengthen economic development in the greater Franklin County area. Their goal is to create and retain quality employment opportunities in Franklin County by attracting new businesses, assisting local employers, and encouraging entrepreneurship. The Franklin County Tourism Network was formed under the umbrella of the GFDC to specifically address economic development issues relating to the Tourism industry which is the largest economic driver particularly in the northern areas of Franklin County, so WSKI invited Alison Hagerstrom & Shelby Childs to share with our viewers what they are doing to promote job creation & a healthier economy for the towns we serve in the western Maine mountains. US National Moguls Champion Jeremy Cota's brief visit home

April 9, 2012 by WSKI Leave a Comment

WSKI was fortunate to have another extraordinary local athlete as our guest on the Mountain Report during his few days home for the first time in over a year & a half! 2007 Carrabassett Valley Academy graduate Jeremy Cota has had an amazing array of accomplishments as a member of the US Freestyle Ski Team, with this winter’s National title a befitting culmination to an excellent season! He had 12 top 10 finishes including four second place finishes in World Cup events in the 2011- 2012 season.

AND he represents us so well with his guileless down-to-earth attitude & self-effacing style, thnx Jeremy! Like we say at Sugarloaf: no need to brag, just show ’em on the Hill!

Fly fishing in the morning, skiing in the afternoon!

April 4, 2012 by WSKI Leave a Comment

It’s hard to argue that it’s been an unusual spring up here in the Western Mountains. What is easy to argue though, is when someone says there isn’t anything to do around here. In fact, the weird weather means you can go fly fishing first thing in the morning, then hit the slopes after lunch! The fly fishing season has officially begun and registered Maine Guide Bob Duport of Western Mountains Fly Fishing stopped in to the studio to discuss the new season and offer some handy tips. Whether you’re an experienced angler or sushi is the closest you’ve come to a live fish, give Bob a call to arrange your own guided expedition. [Read more…]
