Summer Gondola Ride

Wonder if we’ll ever have anything like this way to summit our mountain again?
Grandparents & little ones, all enjoyed the ride up & down, & incredible panoramic view while having a picnic on the deck, with that full 360 degree view from the Whites & Quebec, to Maine from east to south, all visible with just a few steps on the rocks above the Octagon.

Hartford Ballet at the Mountain in the ’80s, & a Softball Game!

Unlikely as it may sound, when the Hartford Ballet spent their summers practicing at Sugarloaf, locals who wouldn’t know a tutu from a tip-toe came to appreciate the talents of these professionals! With free performances in the Courtyard that introduced us to a world of dance & beauty that wasn’t exactly part of our Carrabassett Valley lifestyle, the comraderie that ensued (mainly at Gepetto’s!!) was another time when fun memories were created between our cultured ballet friends from the city, & us… kinda not a bit of either, but common bond was surely formed: great time at the Mtn. (& the Valley for this softball game!).

The peace and quiet of Julie pond is well worth the easy walk up a well established atv trail. A great spot for a picnic or to try your luck fly fishing…
Park your car on the dirt road directly across from the South entrance to Spring Farm on rt27 in Carrabassett Valley. Continue up the ATV trail for approximatly 1.9 miles and you’ll find the pond on your left… [Read more…]
