We got out this past Saturday to grab a few shots of the 50K race. The morning started with rain and the riders dealt with some muddy conditions. By the afternoon the sun had come out as most racers headed toward the finish. Huge thanks to all the volunteers and racers as well as the town of Carrabassett Valley for putting on a great event. Mountain biking is one of the most exciting developments in the Maine High Peaks Region and it’s TAKING OFF! Based at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center, the area’s trail network extends for miles in all directions and offers riding for all abilities. All trails are designed and constructed with great care and Carrabassett Valley is poised to become New England’s premier mountain bike destination. Mountain biking in the Carrabassett Region is getting BIG. The last couple years has seen new singletrack, improved and maintained trails, the Carrabassett Backcountry Challenge, the forming of the Carrabassett Region chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association and lots more. One aspect that has been lacking is a bike shop. Well the time is right to change that and CV local Bob Ash has stepped up to the plate (or clicked both feet in) and the result is the Carrabassett Valley Bike Shop located at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.
