The “string of pearls” along the Carrabassett River, & the peaks of Sugarloaf, Bigelow & Crocker Mountains in view throughout the course, promised to make the new Sugarloaf golf course a champion’s delight right from the start. Always beautiful, always challenging, & ranked #1 in the State of Maine year after year since its beginning, the opening of the course was an exciting moment when Carrabassett added golf to the choice of actvities available in our region.
Kirby Kelly, skilled RC pilot, provided this truly amazing aerial footage with his quadcopter drone. This is a MUST SEE view of Sugarloaf’s Beach on a gorgeous Spring day!
Skiing, warmer temps & the sun higher in the sky, make Springtime Sugarloaf’s Specialty! Long before Reggae, the combination of Sugarloaf’s great late snow, & “Spring Fever” made the Mtn. a favorite for crazy fun times at the Base as much as on the slopes! This video from the early ’80s captures the moment; from tuning skis outside the Ski Shop, to a glimpse of the line out of the Gondi building, & a few familiar faces still at the resort, hope you enjoy this look back to a spring tradition of just BEING at Sugarloaf & knowing there’s no place like it anywhere else in the northeast!!
“For over 30 years at Sugarloaf,there has been an end of season celebration for all the hard work it takes to survive the challenges of ski mountain operations, for Snowmakers & Groomers & all the background people who make it possible for the rest of us to play on our Mountain! WSKI made video’s from the first year, 1983, including this 1988 rendition featuring Lloyd & Tiger & a whole cast of characters, some real, some not, all references to anyone should not be taken seriously or out of context, & we can only hope that 26 years later, this irreverent humor will make you wish you were here!
