Kibby Mountain (3654 ft) is located north of Flagstaff Lake, east of Chain of Ponds and just south of the Canadian boarder. The trail to the summit is 2.5 miles long and takes approx 1.5 hrs to reach the summit. Before you head out for the trailhead make sure you’ve got plenty of gas and supplies as this is well off the beaten path….but worth the trip! To get there:
From the junction of ME 16 in Stratton, drive north on rt 27 for 17 miles. Turn right onto the Gold Brook Road (very active logging road, watch for trucks). Follow Gold Brook Road for approx 9.2 miles to an abandoned road on your right. Follow this road for 1/4 mile reaching the trail head on your left.
About 1 mi. into your hike you reach a fork. Take the right at the fork. There is a small cairn marking the turn. Use caution if climbing the fire tower at the summit. The floorboards are showing their age and were a bit soft at the time this video was shot.
