Amos & Friends Dancing

October 30, 2015 by WSKI Leave a Comment

This blast from the past is sure to bring back memories of the decades of kids’ programs creating future Sugarloafers under the care of Marcia White & her fabulous crew.

Bonus points if you know where the guy in the suit holding up the banners works now! Wee bit of irony; it was Top competition at the time till the Mtn. was sold to the same company who owned them…!!!

Double bonus points if you know who’s in the costumes!

October 21, 2015 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Karl Strand & Crusher introduced Brent Larsen, new Director of Lifts, on our live Mountain Report Oct. 10th. A great opportunity to get the word out on what’s going on with the lifts on the mountain, & a big welcome to Brent to our Mountain! With plenty of challenges comes plenty of work to ensure our long-lived/loved lifts get the attention they require to ensure we all get to ride with peace of mind in the future! Thanks to everyone in the Lifts department for all their hard work behind the scenes to get things right!!!

Jimmy Heuga Racing for MS on Bucksaw

August 13, 2015 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Jimmie Heuga was one of the first two American men to win an Olympic medal in Alpine skiing, and became a pioneering advocate of exercise and activity to combat multiple sclerosis, the disease that curtailed his athletic career. After the top-to-bottom Sugarloaf vertical challenge morphed into the Jimmy Heuga Fundraiser for MS, the objective of getting as much vertical as possible in one day caused the event to use a dedicated trail, Windrow, serviced by Bucksaw Chairlift. Now that Sugarloaf has announced Bucksaw is going away with no replacement being discussed, we are sad to see this family-friendly, wind resistant chairlift be quietly taken away this summer. Thanks for the memories, here are some to share!

1971 World Cup

March 24, 2015 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Solidifying Sugarloaf as a racer’s mountain five-plus decades ago, were the World Cup races that were moved to Maine after poor snow in Europe caused a change in venue in early 1971. The Narrow Gauge trail was, & remains today, a fantastic trail for speed events to slalom courses, & though the gear, grooming & generations have changed since then, the thrill never stops, or diminishes for that matter, for the run down our beloved ‘Gauge’! Go fast everyone, & Good Luck at the Nats this week!!
