Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust: Bonney Point Trails

May 31, 2012 by WSKI Leave a Comment

“Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving natural areas, scenic beauty, critical wildlife habitat and the cultural heritage that make this region of our state so special.” -rlht.org

One of the ways for the public to enjoy the hard work accomplished by the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust is by checking out one of the many parcels of preserved land in the region. This can include fishing on the legendary Rapid River, bird watching in one of the wildlife sanctuaries, and plenty of opportunities for hiking as well.

In this short video we stopped by the Bonney Point Trails. This easy 1 mile loop hike with lake access can be reached by turning off of Rt 4 just north of the town of Rangeley onto Bonney Point road. The trailhead and parking area is on the left. Once at the trailhead, you’ll find a signpost with maps and all the info you’ll need to explore Bonney Point. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, and Enjoy! Find out more information at rlht.org.

The Sound of Music in the Mountains

May 28, 2012 by WSKI Leave a Comment

There’s no more majestic backdrop or fantastic natural audio-enhancing environment than you’ll find when you experience a symphony orchestra playing in the western mountains of Maine! This archive footage from the Portland Symphony Orchestra is a good reminder that the Kingfield POPs w/ the Bangor Symphony Orchestra & Noel Paul Stookey (oh WOW!!!) will soon be in the region, so see their website: www.kingfieldpops.com to get your tickets & plan to spend a glorious day/evening listening to the sound of music, outside, with Maine’s 4000+ foot mountains setting the scene! You’ll find some people who attended the PSO at Sugarloaf in the ’80s, will be there at the Kennedy Farm on June 30, 2012, too! How cool is that..?.. the timelessness of the value of the life we lead!! [Read more…]

Carrabassett Valley Bike Shop

May 11, 2012 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Mountain biking in the Carrabassett Region is getting BIG. The last couple years has seen new singletrack, improved and maintained trails, the Carrabassett Backcountry Challenge, the forming of the Carrabassett Region chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association and lots more. One aspect that has been lacking is a bike shop. Well the time is right to change that and CV local Bob Ash has stepped up to the plate (or clicked both feet in) and the result is the Carrabassett Valley Bike Shop located at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center. See his interview below on the WSKI set earlier this spring to learn more…  [Read more…]
