Unlikely as it may sound, when the Hartford Ballet spent their summers practicing at Sugarloaf, locals who wouldn’t know a tutu from a tip-toe came to appreciate the talents of these professionals! With free performances in the Courtyard that introduced us to a world of dance & beauty that wasn’t exactly part of our Carrabassett Valley lifestyle, the comraderie that ensued (mainly at Gepetto’s!!) was another time when fun memories were created between our cultured ballet friends from the city, & us… kinda not a bit of either, but common bond was surely formed: great time at the Mtn. (& the Valley for this softball game!).

Get it while you can: Paddling the Carrabassett River
Many folks don’t like the rain. If you enjoy the local rivers and streams, especially by the power of a paddle than the rain is a good thing. Right here in Carrabassett we have the beautiful Carrabassett River which runs along the Maine High Peaks scenic byway from New Portland to the Sugarloaf access rd. Take a Hike! Larry’s Loop
Nestled within the woods of Carrabassett Valley lies a wonderful natural feature known as Poplar Stream Falls. The falls can be reached a variety of ways, including via a loop hike on the Maine Huts and Trails trail system. This hike is perfect for all abilities and can also be a great snowshoe in the winter months.
