1992 Downhill Mountain Bike Racing at Sugarloaf

July 7, 2016 by WSKI Leave a Comment

As Carrabassett Valley’s miles of mountain bike trails grow & get more popular every year, here’s a reminder of the days when the Mountain had mountain biking DOWNHILL style… made only more fun w/ damp & foggy conditions for mud & slick cruising for this version of a wicked fun gravity sport, not for the faint hearted or those afraid of more than a faceful of dirt!!! Note the changes in bikes & tires since then!!!!!

Cathedral Pines Pathways & Eustis Ridge Overlook

June 24, 2016 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Just north of Sugarloaf in Eustis are the unique “Cathedral Pines”. Beautiful tall Red Pines that tower above the landscape. On the corner of Eustis Ridge Road and Rt27 are some nice and easy trails to explore the Cathedral Pine forest. Great for hiking and biking in the summer months, and groomed xc ski trails and snowshoeing in the winter.
Just about a mile and a half up Eustis Ridge road on your right you’ll find the Eustis Ridge Overlook park. Picnic tables and great views of the Bigelow range can be enjoyed here… [Read more…]

Thankful? … you bet; for guys like these who made our Mtn. into the Legend it is in the East!

June 14, 2016 by WSKI Leave a Comment

This casual conversation between original Sugarloaf patrollers Stub Taylor & Dana Wallace was captured in the Patrol Locker Room in Admin. during the early 1990s. It is a gem for the memories they share! It’s hard to imagine how different things were 60 years ago, but it’s easy to see this hard-core skiers’ mountain, has been respected & revered, & deeply loved, by three generations now! This seemed a good time  for us at WSKI to remind everyone of all the gratitude we have for those who have gone before to make the Mountain what it is today!

Hartford Ballet at the Mountain in the ’80s, & a Softball Game!

June 10, 2016 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Unlikely as it may sound, when the Hartford Ballet spent their summers practicing at Sugarloaf, locals who wouldn’t know a tutu from a tip-toe came to appreciate the talents of these professionals! With free performances in the Courtyard that introduced us to a world of dance & beauty that wasn’t exactly part of our Carrabassett Valley lifestyle, the comraderie that ensued (mainly at Gepetto’s!!) was another time when fun memories were created between our cultured ballet friends from the city, & us… kinda not a bit of either, but common bond was surely formed: great time at the Mtn. (& the Valley for this softball game!).
