The Carrabassett Backcountry Cycle Challenge is coming up this summer and it keeps getter better and better each year. Warren Gerow stopped by the studio to fill us in on all the details… [Read more…]
They don’t call them the Snowfields for nothing…
One of the truly unique, if not THE most outstanding feature of skiing (& riding) at Sugarloaf, is the chance to ski above the tree-line with lift service! Every season is different, & some are better than others, but for those of us who live here, any day at the summit of Sugarloaf is better than any pay-check from an office where we wouldn’t be able to be here on those magical days!! I remember shooting this video like it was yesterday, tho it was actually 1984… when WSKI was part of the Marketing Dept. before we went independent as SNOWFIELDS Productions in 1986!!
Reggae Run-down on WSKI’s Mountain Report
Here’s the Mtn’s Content Manager (& Snow Reporter) extraordinaire Jamie Walter sharing all the info to Know Before You Go for the 28th Annual Bud Light Reggae Fest that kicks off Thursday. With a perfect forecast, the snow holding tight on the hill, & spring fever pent up from the chilly temps the past couple of weeks, is there a better way to celebrate the official ‘Commemoration of Spring Event’ at the Mtn. that rules the Season!??! Footnote; Jamie’s photographs of an incredible display of Northern Lights over Flagstaff Lake & from the Mtn. blew Sugarloaf’s FB numbers off the charts last fall: a rare gift for us who live here to experience, even more rare for someome w/ Jamie’s talent to capture it to share with all.. Mother Nature’s most breath-taking beauty in our book!!
Carrabassett River Canoe Race: another event from our Archives…
Sugarloaf held canoe races on the Dead & Carrabassett Rivers for many years during spring thaw, which drew paddlers from wide & far to take advantage of the high water-whitewater! It drew tons of spectators, too, with easy viewing along Rt. 27 in many places. Happy Spring memories from mountain melting water adventures in Carrabassett a while ago… the river still runs; go get it while you can!!!
This IS skiing’s heart..!!
From the older generation to the newer one, the FEELING that is shared by skiers (& riders) at Sugarloaf is deep & true! One of our very favorites, John Christie, was on to talk about the Sugarloaf ’50 Year Gang’ Luncheon at the Inn, & he was joined in the studio by Amy from Amalgam Skis to draw the name of the Winter Watch & Win Grand Prize winner of a hand-made in Freeport, ME pair of skis: who turned out to be a local regular WSKI-TV 17 viewer & second generation Mountain employee (sort of!), Seth Nickerson! Lotta love going around here between awesome people of all ages… proud to call this Mountain Home!
