Sugarloaf held canoe races on the Dead & Carrabassett Rivers for many years during spring thaw, which drew paddlers from wide & far to take advantage of the high water-whitewater! It drew tons of spectators, too, with easy viewing along Rt. 27 in many places. Happy Spring memories from mountain melting water adventures in Carrabassett a while ago… the river still runs; go get it while you can!!!
This IS skiing’s heart..!!
From the older generation to the newer one, the FEELING that is shared by skiers (& riders) at Sugarloaf is deep & true! One of our very favorites, John Christie, was on to talk about the Sugarloaf ’50 Year Gang’ Luncheon at the Inn, & he was joined in the studio by Amy from Amalgam Skis to draw the name of the Winter Watch & Win Grand Prize winner of a hand-made in Freeport, ME pair of skis: who turned out to be a local regular WSKI-TV 17 viewer & second generation Mountain employee (sort of!), Seth Nickerson! Lotta love going around here between awesome people of all ages… proud to call this Mountain Home!
National Body Sliding at Sugarloaf in the ’80s
The variety of methods & madness of the National Body Sliding Championship on Boardwalk as part of White White World Week was half the entertainment, the rest was all the mayhem of the trip down the slope!
You’ll recognize several folks in this 25 year old+ video who still call the Mtn. home, with a grin & a twinkle in the eye: yes, we know how to have fun at Sugarloaf, it’s a big part of who we are for over 60 years!
Pro Skiing re-born
What is old is new again as the announcement of a Pro Ski Tour being re-introduced brings excitement to the world of ski racing for the first time in three decades, giving an opportunity to racers everywhere to hit the slopes for cash prizes once their Olympic aspirations are retired. CV resident Craig Marshall will be working for the former Red Stallion owner Ed Rogers, who created the circuit originally. Racers Ready???
Ski Maine’s Greg Sweetser
Long time friend Greg Sweetser came by for an update on what’s happening across the Pine Tree State this winter at areas big & small from north to south: in a place where our winters tend to last a few (several) months, there’s no excuses not to embrace the outside lifestyle year-round no matter where in Maine you may be!! Think Snow!!
