November 16, 2018 by WSKI Leave a Comment

It was a productive season for the Carrabassett Valley Mountain Bike Trail crew. We caught up with them to find out how the season went, what they got accomplished, as well what the future looks like… If you see these guys around give them a high five, buy them a beer and let them know they are doing great work here in the valley. Their work is giving a huge boost to the local economy as well as making Carrabassett Valley one of the best mountain bike destinations in the northeast! [Read more…]

More from the Archives….”Won’t you become a familiar face here with us?”

November 10, 2018 by WSKI Leave a Comment

Another Saturday for memories… rain down country, snow here, Snowmaking starts up tonight for the duration w/ Opening next weekend! Many thanks to Brud Folger for the footage from late sixties? Old Valley Crossing look familiar?? Parker’s narration is still spot on. From the stretch pants, to Harry & Martha Baxter & John Christie’s skiing prowess, there is so much to love about this…. Our Mountain. Easy to visualize how many people have felt the same way for the past 60+ years….

An interview with Amos Winter! Priceless though brief. And more early skiing, love the cruising down Sluice … so much to love about this old footage. The area businesses from Kingfield to Eustis all presented together as part of the offerings to attract visitors here more than 50 years ago. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The Maine High Peaks is a destination for so many, home for us lucky few…

Sugarloaf… late ’60s-early ’70s? Anyone pin point the year?

October 26, 2018 by WSKI Leave a Comment

We finally got the 16 mm projector set up to have a look at the footage ChipChop had stored in his barn in Kingfield. We are happy to share with our viewers both Channel 17 & world wide. Love the comment about John Christie, who was indeed one of the best/prettiest skiers this mountain has seen over the years… back when there was no such thing as Ego Snow….even Chicken Pitch could be challenging!
Here’s to those who have gone before to make this mountain the skier/rider’s mecca it is. Forever grateful.
