Gerry Thompson has been skiing this mountain for over 50 years & one of the ways he gives his time & energy to our community is through his BOD capacity for our beloved Richard Bell Chapel. Not a lot of ski areas have their own chapel. In “the early days” Sunday services at Sugarloaf were held in the Baselodge basement. As the mountain grew, so did its need to use the basement space. With the support of Ski Club members, Dick Bell spearheaded a major fundraising campaign to build a chapel. He wanted it to be interfaith, & “ski-in, ski-out”. In 1968, the Sugarloaf Chapel became a reality, & in 1986 was renamed to honor Dick & his tireless efforts. The chapel continues to be held & maintained in a trust by a Board of Directors composed of Bell family members & other interested persons like Gerry. That building is important to the Heart & Soul of Our Mountain. Please help keep it going, if you can, this Holiday Season. We Are Very Thankful for our Richard Bell Chapel.
